Cooperation between Fortum and Leanheat is getting deeper. Companies are developing novel heating systems based on Big Data and Artificial Intelligence. The goal is to cut the consumption and optimize the production of heating energy without compromising living conditions.
The pilot project of “load shifting” has grown to a size of 40 properties and 2000 apartments as Espoon Asunnot Oy (municipal housing company in Espoo) joined the project. Other pilot companies in the project include also TA-Yhtymä and Järvenpään Mestariasunnot (both large housing companies in Finland).
Within the project Fortum is piloting hourly pricing of district heating. Technology Director Heli Antila notes that load shifting could eventually cut energy bills as well as save the environment.
